Matt is from the Houston area and played every sport he could before reality set in and he became convinced that a professional athletic career would have to wait for an opportunity on ESPN 8 “The Ocho”. In the meantime, he pursued a degree in civil engineering at Texas A&M. While in Aggieland he also developed a passion for Aggie football, experiencing the thrills of victory and the agonies of defeat. In 2001, Matt became the 5th co-op student hired by GMcivil which led to an interest in land development and an opportunity to join the firm full time following his graduation from A&M in 2002. He quickly began managing his own projects and became a professional engineer in 2007. In these early days he also volunteered to spearhead the recruitment of new co-op students, a role he still enjoys.
With over 20 years of civil engineering experience in land development, Matt has designed and managed many types of projects across the country including residential communities, mixed-use developments, industrial parks, corporate offices, and major municipal infrastructure. He also is the lead traffic engineer at GMcivil performing traffic impact analyses for the land development projects. For the last decade Matt has spent most of his time on development projects located in the City of Fort Worth. As such, Matt enjoys spending quality time with his friends in Fort Worth and is always eager to share alternative civil engineering solutions with them.
In the office Matt, more commonly referred to as “Baacke”, is the self-proclaimed director of gaming, serving as the commissioner for the office pool games of March Madness, College Football Pick’em, Office Putt-Putt, GMcivil at The Masters, Super Bowl Squares, and Bowl Mania. When GMcivil purchased its current office building Matt had the vision of converting extra conference room space into a game room that has become a great gathering place for employees to relax and have a good time.
Matt lives in Grapevine with his wife, Kristan, and their combined three children, two dogs, and a Bradford pear tree that was responsibly repurposed as firewood. He enjoys vacations with the family, hanging out on the weekends, Aggie sports, golfing, game nights, and wheated bourbons. If you asked Matt’s family what represents him the best, you might hear “the three F’s”. Not what you are thinking (fun, funny, and full of himself), but faith, family, and football, although the first three may have received honorable mention.
