The GMcivil Cooperative Education Program

For over 20 years, GMcivil has worked with the top co-operative students from the country’s leading engineering programs. In that time, over 100 engineering students have gained valuable real-world experience that they have used to launch successful engineering careers.

Universities We've Partnered With:

  • Texas A&M University
  • Purdue University
  • Michigan State University
  • University of Illinois
  • University of Texas, Arlington
  • University of Texas, Austin
  • Georgia Tech
  • University of Iowa
  • University of Cincinnati

What You Can Expect

Our co-operative students work closely with the P.E. and E.I.T. staff to receive first-hand experience in fundamental engineering principles. Each co-op student is integral to the design process of our extensive project portfolio.

You can expect a full-time schedule during your time at GMcivil. For our team, that usually means 50 to 55 hours each week, depending on the current workload.

We typically offer two different co-op sessions each year. You can choose from a spring-summer co-op that runs from January to August, or a summer-fall co-op that runs from May to December. We typically interview and hire our spring-summer co-op students in September and October, and hire our summer-fall students in February and March. We also work with each student on an individual basis and their degree plan such as accommodating non-consecutive co-op sessions like the University of Cincinnati’s co-op schedule. We encourage you to attend your university’s engineering career fairs, expos, and professional practice days to learn more about when and how to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

Undergraduate engineering students in good academic standing are eligible to apply. We prefer those students who are majoring in civil engineering or a related engineering program.

During your co-op, you will quickly fill in the gaps of your engineering knowledge. However, you must have completed your first year of college by the time your co-op begins. No pre-requisite courses are required.

Benefits of Interning with GMcivil

Second-to-None Experience

Because of our lean structure and size, you will hit the ground running, becoming an integral part of our team. GMcivil is a smaller, high-performing team, so we look to co-op students as a key part of our team. You will have the opportunity to work on current, critical projects, giving you experience you can take directly into the field after graduation.

Supportive Team Environment

No team member at GMcivil is too big to help out. Open doors around the office means we are all ready and willing to pitch in to problem-solve and collaborate to make our projects better for the client. Working next to our Principals and experienced engineers will give you invaluable knowledge on how to apply your engineering skills in the field.

Exciting Metropolitan Area

With our office in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, you can experience the excitement and development that is present in a major population center of the South. Grapevine, just minutes from the DFW international airport, offers the livability of a smaller community, yet is just a short drive away from the culture, arts, sports, restaurants, and more that Dallas and Fort Worth have to offer.

Valuable Connections

Our experienced team of engineers can serve as a helpful professional network as you enter the engineering field after graduation. Our team members hold numerous connections from their time before GMcivil and from their years of experience in the industry.

Grapevine Texas

GMcivil corporate headquarters is located in Grapevine, Texas which is centrally located between Dallas and Fort Worth.  Our office has excellent access to DFW International Airport and the freeways that converge within a couple of miles of our location.  Despite being situated in the middle of one of the largest metro areas in the country, Grapevine still holds some small town charm, particularly in the historic district.  Grapevine is known as a shopping and dining destination within the DFW area and offers many entertainment options as well as an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities at nearby Lake Grapevine.
