Goodwin and Marshall served as civil engineer for the Kubota Tractor Corporate Headquarters project in Grapevine, Texas. The one-of-a-kind 30-acre project offered all the unique challenges a civil engineer could hope for.
The site was situated on the banks of Denton Creek which provided extensive topographic conditions that made it difficult to locate buildings and parking. The Kubota company was also very environmentally conscious and had strict requirements on preserving as much of the natural landscape as possible (which included many century-old post oak trees). Ultimately the office tower was designed to sit on top of the hill and the adjacent 3-story parking garage was designed into the side of the hill such that the traffic would enter at ground level at the top of the garage closest to the main entry off of Kubota Drive, and vehicles could exit the garage at the lower level at the bottom of the hillside. The Kubota research and development building was also built into the hillside in order to minimize the tree clearing and grading work necessary.
